BAFF Virtual Industry Networking Events are a year-round series of seminars providing attendees with direct access to industry professionals to discuss their films/screenplays, and receive feedback and strategies on how to best advance their projects. 

  • It is recommended that all participants are prepared with a logline/synopsis of their current project. 

  • IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS TO SHARE INFORMATION ON THEIR PROJECTS AND RECEIVE FEEDBACK, ATTENDANCE WILL BE LIMITED TO 12 SLOTS PER SESSION. 

  • The majority of our keynote speakers will provide participants with contact information at the conclusion of the seminar.

  • ALL seminars take place on Zoom allowing participants to join remotely.

FROM FUNDRAISING TO NETFLIX DISTRIBUTION

Sarah Moshman is an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and TEDx speaker whose work has been featured on Upworthy, Marie Claire, CNN, and Good Morning America.

Her first feature doc "The Empowerment Project: Ordinary Women Doing Extraordinary Things", screened over 700 times around the U.S. With Indieflix as the distributor, the film has been sponsored by major brands like Nordstrom, American Girl and Microsoft. Sarah's second feature doc, "Losing Sight of Shore" follows the incredible journey of four women who rowed across the Pacific Ocean. The film was released globally in 190 countries on NETFLIX. "Nevertheless", is Sarah’s third feature documentary which takes a look behind the headlines of #MeToo and Time’s Up to shine a light on the sexual harassment crisis and use the power of cinema for change.

Sarah has worked as a field producer on the hit ABC show "Dancing with the Stars" for 10 seasons as well as shows on NBC, MTV, Lifetime, Bravo and the Food Network. She also directs branded content for EllenTube, Tastemade, Mattel, AT&T, Samsung, Stayfree, SPANX, and more.

Mark Harris is a self-taught filmmaker. His movies have been distributed by major distributors and he’s self-distributed many of his earlier films and sold hundreds of thousands of copies in the U.S. and overseas. 

Mark's 2020 film "White People Money" received a limited theatrical release and is now available on Apple TV. He has partnered with AMC Theaters for a theatrical release of his film “Black Coffee“ , and is now available on Fox's streaming platform Tubi, as well as Amazon, and has been seen on Netflix and BET.

 

He has partnered with Entertainment One, Image Entertainment, RLJ Entertaiment, BET, Codeblack Entertainment, Warner Brothers, Signa Entertainment, Indican Pictures, and Hannover Pictures for nationwide and global distribution.

Mark is the Founder of 1555Filmworks, a film production company that produces feature films and he’s the Founder of the Englewood International Film Festival.

In this conference, Mark will provide filmmakers with information and feedback on strategies to gain theatrical distribution, as well releasing your film on major streaming platforms. He will also cover self-distribution, building your audience and marketing yourself as a filmmaker.

Veteran filmmaker Julia Verdin  an accomplished producer, award-winning Director and has written a number of screenplays.

Having been in the film business for 30 years, Julia has established herself as one of Hollywood’s leading independent producers, with over 36 critically acclaimed feature films produced to date. She founded and has been running Rough Diamond Productions since 1995. 

Theatrical releases and top film festival favorites Julia has produced, include the recent 2 Jacks, directed by Bernard Rose, based on the Leo Tolstoy short story “Two Hussars”: the film starred Golden Globe and SAG nominee, Danny Huston, SAG Award winner Jack Huston, Golden Globe nominee Sienna Miller, Golden Globe winner Jacqueline Bisset, and SAG Award nominee Billy Zane; Stander, directed by Bronwen Hughes starring Golden Globe nominee Thomas Jane, Deborah Unger, Dexter Fletcher, and David O’Hara; Sony Pictures Classics released The Merchant of Venice, directed by Michael Radford, starring Academy Award winners Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons, and Emmy nominee Joseph Fiennes; and Riding The Bullet based on a Stephen King story, directed by Mick Garris, and starring Emmy nominee David Arquette, Jonathan Jackson, Erica Christensen, and Barbara Hershey.

 

Julia’s faith-based film, The Least Among You was a Lionsgate release, starring Lou Gossett Jr., SAG Award nominee Lauren Holly, and William Devane, and featured in major festivals, being nominated for two N.A.A.C.P awards. Julia also Executive Produced the Lionsgate release Born of War, directed by Vicky Jewson, starring James Frain and Sophia Black D’Elia.

Other producing work includes Pursued for director Jeffrey Obrow, starring Sam Trammell, Molly Ringwald, Angus Macfayden and Miesha Tate and Paul Sorvino and One by One directed By Jeffrey Obrow, starring Dwight Yoakam and Christopher Lloyd both in post-production and the recently released, The Unwilling starring Dina Meyer, Lance Henriksen and Jake Thomas which has won many awards at top horror festivals.

Her directorial debut, Lost Girls starring Bar Paly, Marisol Nichols, and Jamie Harris has been doing well on the festival circuit and won several awards including Best Social Impact film at The Culver City Film festival. The film has also been broadcast as part of an educational program on sex trafficking of minors and has been screened by organizations and communities and is currently in distribution.

Julia is currently in post-production on a feature film she directed, wrote and produced, Lost Girls: Angie’s Story, set around the world of sex trafficking again, this time focusing on a victim’s difficulty re-integrating with her family, re-finding her self-worth whilst combating ongoing threats to herself and loved ones from traffickers. The film stars Olivia d’Abo, Dylan Sprayberry, Antony Montgomery, Randolph Batinkoff, Jane Widdup, M.C. Lyte and Amin Joseph.
