About the Festival The Big Apple Film Festival, presented by the Big Apple Film Society, takes place annualy in the heart of the greatest city in the world. The BAFF is dedicated to showcasing and promoting the highest quality films and screenplays from the New York City independent film community, as well as additional special selections from across the country and around the world. Additionally, each year, we are proud to honor a variety of New York City based filmmakers, writers, actors and artists who have played an influential role in the growth of independent filmmaking in the Big Apple. Our mission is to bridge the gap between dedicated independent film audiences and filmmakers, as well as to connect emerging filmmakers with established industry professionals. Therefore, the festival offers a variety of film screenings, special New York City premieres, interactive panel discussions with representatives from the New York City film community, special guests, a screenplay competition, networking parties and events, as well as a closing night awards ceremony, in which awards will be presented to celebrate achievements in filmmaking, screenwriting and acting. In addition, as New York City is synonymous with cultural diversity, the Big Apple Film Festival was established to celebrate the city's multi-culturalism. Therefore, a primary purpose of the festival is to recognize films and filmmakers that seek to focus their attention on the unique qualities of individuals of all backgrounds and ethnicities. In order to bring the most elite talent to the silver screen, the BAFF is proud to partner with a variety of independent film organizations, including IFP, Filmmaker Magazine, Indiewire.com and Scriptshark.com. ![]() |

About The Big Apple Film Society The Big Apple Film Society was established as a means of supporting and promoting independent films and filmmakers from the New York City metropolitan area. Our primary mission is to connect cinematic audiences with influential, educational and entertaining films that have been developed and produced outside of the mainstream studio system and reflect the ideals of individuals living and/or working within the New York area. Our key philosophy is that as the visual age continues to progress, media will continue to play a major role in the shaping of our society and therefore it is imperative that a multitude of voices are heard and experienced through the visual medium. As New York City is synonymous with cultural diversity, the Big Apple Film Society seeks to recognize and support films and filmmakers that focus their attention on the unique qualities of individuals of all backgrounds and ethnicities. BIG APPLE FILM SOCIETY SHORT FILM DIGEST – A monthly e-zine designed to keep film audiences updated on award winning short films from New York City filmmakers and production companies. Focuses primarily on short films that are influential, educational and have received award-winning recognition from established film festivals throughout the country and around the world. NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS “EDUCATION THROUGH FILM” INITIATIVE – Each year the Big Apple Film Society will select a variety of films that can be used for educational purposes throughout classrooms in the New York City Public School System. These films will be screened in classrooms and specially selected filmmakers will be asked to host interactive discussions with students following the screenings, which will allow for a more dynamic, hands-on, cooperative and analytical approach to instruction through use of the visual medium. BIG APPLE FILM FESTIVAL – Each year, the Big Apple Film Society will host the Big Apple Film Festival. The festival will screen a variety of specially selected film from the New York City independent film community, as well as additional selections from across the country and around the world. The festival includes New York City premieres, interactive panel discussions with industry professionals from the New York City film community, honorary award presentations to individuals who have played an influential role in independent filmmaking in the New York City area, networking parties and events, as well as a closing night awards ceremony in which awards will be presented for achievement in filmmaking, screenwriting and acting.

Big Apple Film Festival Advisory Board Michael Roban– Mr. Roban is the Chief Operating Officer of Stone Village Pictures, LLC in Los Angeles. He has overseen production, sales and/or finance of numerous films. His credits include "The Cooler", "13 Conversations About One Thing" and "Secretary". Mitchell D. Bernstein – Entertainment attorney and partner with the prominent law firm Moses and Singer in New York City. David Paterson – Award winning writer/producer.
Feature film credits include, "Love, Ludlow", which screened at the Sundance Film Festival and has been released
by Warner Home Video. Mr. Paterson is also the writer/producer of the 2007 film "Bridge to Terabithia", produced
in conjunction with Walt Disney and Walden Media. Thomas Maincent - Works in coordination, management and production on the national film festival circuit. Credits include: Hamptons International Film Festival, Brooklyn International Film Festival, South Asian International Film Festival, IFP Market. Sandra Gayle Jordan - Producer, writer, actress, singer. As president of S.G.Jordan Enterprises, produced, wrote, directed and acted in musical reviews for 15 years. SAG & EQUITY. Film and theater actress. Published author (penname Jordana Sands). Lectured on personal development as well as teaching the performing arts. Erik Davis - Currently a Film Critic/Entertainment Reporter for Cinematical.com, Erik has also worked for NBC and Getty Images. Last year, Erik co-wrote and produced the award-winning short film, See Ya Tomorrow. He's written numerous screenplays and, most recently, co-wrote, produced and directed the feature film Making Love. Joey Reynolds -Joey Reynolds on Radio 710 WOR New York. Joey Reynolds is in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland as a Top 40-radio personality for his accomplishments in radio, television, and music. Joey worked for 20th Century-Fox and was instrumental in the development of the “Star Wars” marketing program. His memoir, “Let Your Smile Be Your Umbrella, But Don’t Get a Mouthful of Rain” is a best seller.
